The Retail Marketing Manager will support branded business and the strategic development of the go-to-market plan.


What will I do as a Retail Marketing Manager?

The Marketing Manager is responsible for supporting and leading the strategic development and execution of the brand's marketing plan. This role is responsible for the development of the brand and communication strategy. This position conducts the business analysis needed to drive sound decisions and build sound marketing strategies, manages the product portfolio, leads the development of product initiatives, and develops and executes the consumer promotion plan.


What are the responsibilities of the Retail Marketing Manager?

The Retail Marketing Manager possess and executes upon four key skill sets:


Strategic Planning & Innovation Strategy (anticipate trends to keep leadership position)

  • Develop annual brand go to marketing plans and budget (Customer, Consumer, Shopper, Product)
  • Review marketing tactics based on brand and customer strategies
  • Identify, generate and synthesize and activate on consumer / customer insights
  • Identify and generate channel insights - Product, customer, competition and Create category specific brand positioning plans
  • Customer visits to gain understanding of what is occurring in the market place
  • Evaluate current results vs. competition in the category
  • Set and communicate goals associated with operating plans
  • Support development of new initiatives including: identification of unmet consumer needs, trends, new product concepts, packaging, graphics, business case/P&L, marketing plans, communication/advertising and go
  • Collaborate with Sales Directors on establishing FY Marketing Budget
  • Collaborate with Sales Directors on establishing FY Sales Projection
  • Work with Product Portfolio Manager (s) for Retail Branded and Fresh to drive and deliver against Renovation and Innovation targets
  • Manage analysis and actions for sku portfolio productivity


Sales Execution (focus on sell in & in market activation)

  • Lead strategic planning process to achieve growth objectives and meet brand positioning targets
  • Collaborate and support Sales team with customer opportunities
  • Lead customer specific marketing program consisting of elements, timing and investment
  • Prepare presentations in support of customers and channel opportunities
  • Lead marketing solutions for key strategic retail customers
  • Lead customer specific marketing program consisting of elements, timing and execution of plan
  • Participate in strategic retail customer appointments
  • Lead customer specific marketing program consisting of elements, timing and execution of plan
  • Participate in strategic retail customer appointments
  • Prepare monthly status update to retail team
  • Review selling stories of CFG current offerings
  • Creating and advising a benchmark for annual new item volume
  • Attend and participate in bi-weekly retail sales meeting
  • Lead cross functional team to execute identified marketing plan


Fresh Channel Management

  • Develop, communicate and align Fresh Channel marketing plan with stakeholders
  • Establish clear marketing tactics based on brand and customer strategies
  • Establish annual budget for marketing investment
  • Lead cross functional team to execute identified marketing tactics
  • Identify and generate fresh channel insights - Product, customer, consumer, competition
  • Collaborate on creating and delivering of product/category training (Pork 101, Pork 201, Pork 301)
  • Create & maintain selling materials for CFG current offerings
  • Collaborate and support Fresh team with customer-specific opportunities
  • Manage analysis and actions for sku portfolio productivity


Performance Management

  • Lead the cross-functional development of a prioritized customer target list across channels
  • Monitor, Manage, and report on results to plan
  • Manage the execution of ad agency expectations on projects
  • Measure campaign effectiveness and communicates results - Optimize for future activities
  • Reviewing available data (e.g. IRI) to determine where we are at in the market place
  • Identify process improvement opportunities in sphere of influence


Team CFG

  • Communicate and align strategy with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Attend and participate in bi-weekly retail sales meeting
  • Attend cross functional meetings as needed
  • Participate in organizational development meetings as needed
  • Lead a wide variety of functional areas to develop and manage marketing objectives, strategies and tactics
  • Optimize report communication process and SOP development
  • Effectively engage and build relationships across the matrix organization and senior leaders as well as with external partners
  • Inspire, lead and influence cross functional teams, internal stakeholders and customers for distributive new product initiatives
  • Train new hires in touch point functions as part of onboarding process
  • Operate as subject matter expert for brand communications
  • Attend and participate in corporate social responsibility initiatives
  • Attend and participate in weekly channel management meetings
  • Lead weekly retail priority meetings with direct report
  • Coach direct report -meet with direct report to review progress and longer term personal growth development
  • Identify and establish a plan/approach for successor
  • Build network to develop pipeline of future talent for CFG
  • Be brand and marketing advocate/ambassador
  • Develop, communicate and review marketing plan approach and results with stakeholders


Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing or related field and at least 10 years of Brand and business leadership experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Comprehensive experience in consumer packaged goods industry.
  • Must be able to identify consumer insights and translate them into go to market plans.
  • Creative and passionate about ideation and new product development.
  • Change agent with flexible work style & willingness to roll up your sleeves and do whatever it takes to help your team win
  • Proven track record with working effectively as a business leader and with cross functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills; strong oral and written language skills. Able to communicate at both a technical and non-technical level.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with demonstrated multi-tasking and project management skills.
  • May be required to travel and must be able to represent the company at conferences and product presentations.
  • Ability to build strong business relationships to achieve sustainable partnerships and collaborate internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with proven ability to lead multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Exceptional story telling & presentation skills, both oral and written
  • Strong strategic thinking & analytical skills ; ability to dive team into consumer & competitive landscape & develop sustainable business cases
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Powerpoint
